who is robin?
Nico Robin is an archaeologist and the seventh member of the Straw Hat Pirates, from the One Piece franchise. As a child she ate the flower-flower fruit (see right), and can reproduce her body parts - or even her entire body - on any surface at will.
Hailing from the now-destroyed island Ohara, she is one of only two people alive who can translate Poneglyphs - monolithic structures inscribed with historical knowledge. Her dream is to find and decode the Rio Poneglyph, which carries information about the Void Century - a period that has otherwise been erased from recorded history.
why do i love her?
There's so much to love about Robin that I don't know where to start! First off, she's absolutely stunning! Look at her!! Love a beautiful queen. Her traits I love the most are her intelligence, dry/morbid sense of humour, and how resilient she is despite all the turmoil she's gone through.
The Enies Lobby arc, which focuses on the Straw Hats rescuing Robin from the Marines while revealing her backstory, is one of my favourite One Piece arcs and extremely important to me. It explains how Robin has repeatedly been ostracised - first for her strange powers, and then for being framed for the destruction of Ohara when it was discovered that she was the sole survivor (when really, the World Government annihilated Ohara when their large archaeologist population came close to discovering the secrets of the Void Century).
This meant she needed to take on unsavoury jobs, such as being an assassin and co-leader of the criminal organisation Baroque Works, to survive. She also had next to no genuine friends before joining the Straw Hat Pirates, and her will to live was greatly diminished. But, when the Straw Hats broke into the high-security Enies Lobby to rescue her, they were able to finally break down her walls and convince her that she truly does want - and deserve - to live.
On top of making me feel for a character I'd fallen in love with real quick, Robin's story really resonated with me as an autistic person who always felt out of place growing up, but now has amazing friends I can rely on and laugh with.

- Her favourite foods include sandwiches and coffee!
- During the two-year period bridging the pre-and post-timeskip arcs, Robin trained with the Revolutionary Army at their base on the remote island Baltigo.
